It’s hard to deny that Kurt Angle is worthy of the WWE Hall of Fame. As soon as the Olympic gold medalist made his way to WWE, he would start capturing championships at a rapid pace – still having the best rookie year in the company’s history. He faced some of the best that professional wrestling had, from The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels to Stone Cold & The Rock – but one legend and Angle just missed what could have been an all time classic match.
With Kurt Angle making his WWE debut in 1999, he was one of the biggest stars in the company during the tail end of the Monday Night Wars. WCW was still riding high, but things were starting to go off the rails – with the year 2000 not fondly remembered by WCW fans. They did have some great talent still, including the man that Kurt Angle wishes he shared a ring with.
Kurt Angle Wishes He Got To Work With WWE Hall Of Famer, Bret Hart
While chatting with The Paradox Of Sports, Angle would reveal just who that is – saying the following.
“Bret Hart. That would have been a great match. It would have been an epic matchup,” he added. “Bret and I have talked about it before. Unfortunately, Bret got hurt, and we kind of missed each other. He left WWE right before I got there, and then he went to WCW and he got kicked in the face and ended up with a concussion and had to retire from wrestling. So, it was unfortunate that I never got to wrestle him, but I’ve always wanted to.”
This is one of the most obvious matches that could have been an absolute classic. Angle & Hart both have claims to being the best professional wrestlers of all time. They both worked very technical styles, with a heavy focus on submissions. Give that matchup 20 minutes on a major show like Wrestlemania, and you have something that aspiring wrestlers would still be studying to this day.
