One thing the WWE has never really been good at doing willingly is pushing their talent that aren’t the giants Vince McMahon used to help build up the WWE to the powerhouse it is during the 1980s.
It took the steroid trial and prior attention for Vince to shift focus to the Shawn Michaels and Bret Harts and the in ring performances improved in that it wasn’t just giants hammering on each other.
Generally, according to the many reports and opinions floating around when an undersized performer did get a push it was either due to their popularity or as a reward.
Jim Cornette talked about the difference in a recent podcast where he focused on diversity is needed to keep a product fresh and engaging, but Vince would keep buying into the body builder types.
The WWE has shown the ability to change with the times, but at the moment they have an phenomenal talent in Chad Gable that could take the next step if he works on his mic skills, but he seems to be treading water.
WWE Legend weighs in
Kurt Angle recently took part in a Q&A session where he talked about how Gable may be held back do to his size.
He also pointed out how AJ Styles is smaller but he’s managed to be successful with the WWE and TNA/Impact Wrestling and that Gable will be if he gets a legitimate chance.

During a recent Q&A Session, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle suggested that Chad Gable hasn’t been given enough opportunities in WWE due to his size. He said “Chad is still underrated. That poor kid, because of him being undersized, he hasn’t gotten much of a chance that he should. And I really believe that if they gave him that shot, he would be another great athlete like AJ Styles. AJ was undersized too, and I think that Chad Gable would have the same effect.”

Gable is a former Olympian like Angle, and Angle also talked about how Gable could beat any of the wrestlers in a real fight.
“You know, in real life, he could whoop any of those wrestlers’ a**es. So, you know, he’s a real-life bada**. To not have him go to the main event level where he deserves to be just blows my mind. Because he is very talented, great technical wrestler, former Olympian, you can’t ask for anything more than that.”
Angle made some great points, and given that Gable has been with the WWE for nine years and he had fans chanting his name in NXT when Triple H booked him gives more credence to Angle’s opinion.
We’d love to see Gable get a good push and see what he can do. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
