Tonight was a big show for WWE, as they made their way to Madison Square Garden for a Boxing Day event. However, if fans went hoping to see the matches between Big E & Seth Rollins, or Becky Lynch & Bianca Belair. It was reported earlier in the day that Rollins & Lynch weren’t backstage for the event, and now we know why – as Seth Rollins is out of action thanks to COVID-19.
Seth Rollins Has COVID-19
This information comes right from Rollins himself, who would tweet out the following.
“Merry Covid Christmas to me!!!! I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!”
It’s clear he’s taking things in stride which is always a good thing. Right now, the Omicron variant is making it’s way around, being more easily contracted. However for those who are vaccinated like the staff of WWE, it has been reported that you’re less likely to have long term effects. The spread of this variant is what could send WWE back to the Thunderdome, which could help them flatten the curve in their own way.
This would enable a big amount of hype for Wrestlemania as well, provided they don’t have to run that event from the WWE Thunderdome as well. WWE will always make sure the show goes on – as proven earlier in the days of the pandemic.
WWE Day One Will Likely Be Subject To Change
This puts the WWE Championship match at WWE Day One down one man. Seth Rollins was set to face Big E, with Kevin Owens & Bobby Lashley also in the mix. With no idea how deep Omicron has hit the WWE roster, it’s unclear who could take his spot – but provided they are healthy, someone like Austin Theory or Finn Balor could step right up.
WWE might even shove Von Wagner into another Fatal Four Way title match. They will have to think on their feet, which can often lead to some of the best content WWE produces. Quick booking can be simple, and leads to matches like AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor from TLC 2017. That show also had Kurt Angle teaming with The Shield in one of the most humorous matches of the year.
Will Seth Rollins be able to make it back for January 1st? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
