Recently, WWE was handling a handful of contract negotiations. The likes of Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn were close to becoming free agents. Kevin Owens in particular was building up hype for a potential AEW debut, where he would have joined his old friends of The Young Bucks. However, Kevin Owens signed a new deal – sticking with WWE for a few more years. Now – we have confirmations from WWE sources, that Sami Zayn has also signed a new WWE contract.
Sami Zayn Is Still #1 Contender For The WWE Intercontinental Championship
Right now, Sami Zayn has a title shot he’s waiting to cash in. On the Christmas Eve episode of Smackdown Live, Zayn was the winner of the 12 Days Of Christmas Gauntlet match. With champion Shinsuke Nakamura still nursing a hand injury, Zayn has been unable to get this match, and is currently focused on the Royal Rumble. This has led to a mini-feud with Johnny Knoxville, a star of the popular Jackass series.
Getting into spots like this is common for Zayn, who also worked alongside Logan Paul for last years Wrestlemania. Zayn is someone who can make even a non-wrestler look great, and that’s something that is very valuable to WWE – with how often they enjoy bringing in celebrities.
Building Up A Hall Of Fame Worthy Resume?
With Zayn sticking around in WWE, it’s very likely that this is where he spends the rest of his career. His new deal will take him into his 40’s, and we’ve already seen signs of Zayn slowing down and easing up on his fast paced in-ring style. Even with Zayn having not claimed much gold in WWE, with just a reign as NXT Champion, and a single reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion to his name – he’s very likely to get into the WWE Hall Of Fame.
Zayn has been one of their best utility players as of late, and that will likely not change. There is always a chance he someday wins the WWE Championship, with fans holding out for Zayn to one day win the Money in the Bank contract. Fans also hope to someday see him hold tag team gold alongside Kevin Owens – something both men have wanted for years.
