If there’s one constant about the WWE, it’s that former employees have no qualms about sharing their experiences while there.
For better or worse, it looks like the veil is being lifted in a way that Vince McMahon can’t control it, and it’s raising some eyebrows from curiosity to wondering what’s going on behind closed doors.
Scotty 2 Hotty has been sharing a few experiences from his time there as a wrestler and a coach, and they’re definitely interesting.
Look Younger
The WWE has been open about wanting to focus on bringing in younger talent to grow their own stars after signing other companies’ talent didn’t work.
According to Scotty’s appearance on Talk is Jericho that was shared by @wrestling_mpw, Vince McMahon reportedly wanted the backstage coaches to look younger as well.
“As soon as it started to change, Hunter went away and the other guys started to come in. It was, ‘okay, back to (business casual) now.’ The next week, this is awesome, the next week it was, ‘Hey, Vince (McMahon) wants the coaches looking younger. We need you guys to start dying your beards and cutting your hair.’ The coaches. I literally lost sleep over that. A couple went and did it right away. I’ve had every kind of facial hair, dyed, not dyed, chin strap, goatee, beard. Everything. Spiked hair, bald head. It’s not about that. It’s just, they’re making us jump through hoops like monkeys just to see if we’ll do it. If you do that, what’s next? That was just the beginning.”
There’s plenty to wonder about here, and our guess is it was about to help the younger talent feel more at ease and not like they have to listen to an older generation.
In a strange way it makes sense, but having older coaches and teachers is typical as we learn from those that did it before us.
This definitely comes across as Vince wanting things done simply because he wanted them done.
Of course, this may not have been from Vince but someone else that had a vague authorization to make the show more exciting for younger people.
Having the coaches look younger when they’re backstage doesn’t make a lot of sense, and we’re curious if there will be any more news on this, whether explaining it or claiming it’s not what they meant.
