For weeks now, Grayson Waller has been looking to make a name for himself at the expense of AJ Styles. He’s been making his way to Monday Night RAW, and goading Styles to show up on NXT. Last week at New Years Evil, Styles confronted Waller and finally got a match to be made official, and tonight it’s the main event.
Solo Sikoa & Boa Go To A No-Contest
Before this match, we’d have Solo Sikoa seeking to sort out his issues with Boa. The Streetfighter of the Island has been jumped twice, and tonight they will fight it out in the ring. Boa has been trying to control the powers given by Mei Ying – and failing miserably.
They’d start fast, with Boa missing a running boot and being driven into the corner for some chops. Sikoa took Boa down to the mat, before this one came outside and Boa drove him into the ring post. Back in the ring, Boa hit some knee strikes and a double underhook suplex.
Sikoa was bleeding from the mouth, but he’d block a kick and trip Boa up for a running senton. A cactus lariat sent both men to the outside, and Boa would keep the fight going as the referee hit the ten count. They’d keep the fight going with a steel chair hitting Boa, before the fight went off camera. Eventually, Boa would throw a fireball at Sikoa.
AJ Styles Brings Grayson Waller To The Main Event
Styles got a hero’s welcome to NXT, while Waller got the exact opposite as he hit the ring. It’s his first main event in NXT – and Styles ran him into the ropes quickly. Headlock was applied, but Waller was able to counter his way free. Waller would take some chops in the corner before a big elbow smash to the back of the head.
A kick to the back of the leg would hobble Waller, before a backbreaker landed. The knee drop would land, but Waller was able to kick out at two. A dropkick to the face sent Waller outside, but Waller was able to bounce back and hit a neckbreaker in the ropes.
The baseball slide into a seamless lariat would follow, and throughout the picture in picture break – Waller maintained control and applied a cravat. Styles would fight his way free before taking a leg lariat. Waller would take the sliding forearm smash, and suddenly was back in control. Ushigoroshi would get a two count, and Styles Clash was countered as Waller got the ropes.
Waller went outside, and took a forearm over the top rope. Phenomenal Forearm was set, but Waller went to the apron and set up a hotshot into the rolling elbow. He’d hit the springboard elbow drop, but only got a two count. Calf Crusher would be applied to Waller, but he was able to get the ropes.
Waller would catch Styles with a sitout driver for a two count, before trying to hit a Styles Clash. This failed, but his rolling stunner landed for a two count. Styles nailed a brainbuster and the Phenomenal Forearm for the win.
