The WWE purge of talent and management in NXT to get a clean slate continues as they now released Samoa Joe for a second time.
This one has so many layers and rumors swirling about it that it’s hard to figure out the reason for it as Joe was brought back, thanks to Triple H, as management and helped them scout for new talent as well as a coach.
Now, he’s joined other NXT stalwarts like William Regal and The Road Dogg Jesse James in the release bin.
It’s becoming a trend that’s as confusing as it is frustrating to longtime WWE fans.

It’s a saga
Joe took to Twitter to share his thoughts on his release, and it appears he’s as thrown as everyone:
“Extremely fortunate and grateful to all the young & amazing talent I had the pleasure of working with in the past months. Only saddened at the loss of an “excuse” to see their continued growth & achievement . I am very excited for there future,….. and mine 🙃”
Like with Regal, and company that signs Joe will be getting someone with an impressive wrestling mind and he can still wrestle if needed, through his days of being a regular may be behind him.
He’s dealt with injuries and releases the last couple of years that make the end of his WWE tenure more of a saga than not.
Joe last appeared on the main roster as an in ring talent in February 2020 and was then moved to the announce desk while he dealt with injuries.
Despite being highly popular with the fans, Joe was removed from the Raw announce desk on April 12, 2021 and was released three days later for budget reasons.
He came back to the company a few month later in June after Triple H brought him back to play a backstage role and an enforcer on screen to help put Karrion Kross over for his move to the main roster.
Joe followed through by defeating Kross and allowing him to shift to Raw for what was a head scratching run before his release.
Joe reportedly suffered another injury as relinquished the NXT Championship in September and switched to working as a coach and talent evaluator.
Staining a clean slate
On Wednesday, the WWE released several backstage coaches, writers, and producers were released to further help the full transition to NXT 2.0, effectively killing NXT for many fans.
This move also further fuels the growing belief that the WWE is taking away everything Triple H put into place that made NXT arguably the company’s best brand.
Whatever plans Joe has, we wish him the best and hope he’s as successful as he deserves.
