Xavier Woods appeared on G4’s Attack of the Show on Twitch on January 13 and explained that he’s injured and out 4-6 weeks after suffering a torn Plantaris.
According to Woods, the Plantaris is the muscle under the calf muscle, and it didn’t take anything like a shark attack or steel chair shot but just by jumping.
He further explained the injury happened when he was doing a jumping DDT off the ropes during a match but he didn’t specify which match or who against.
Against the Usos?
The prevalent fan theory is that it happened on last week’s Smackdown when he and Kofi Kingston faced the Usos. During the match, he fought with Jey Uso on the apron and his a tornado DDT, and this is where many think he was injured.
But it could also have been at a house show since then, and since the WWE hasn’t made any announcement yet and Woods only spoke of it yesterday it makes sense it could’ve happened since then.
When asked, Woods explained what happened:
“Yeah, so I was jumping in the ring to do a DDT. I spring off the bottom rope and grab the guy and then run his head into the ground hopefully shattering all the bones in his body so I can pin him and win the match and make more money.
“So I did that part still but in the process — No, just jumping off the rope, so nothing like — not a shark attack, not a steel chair hit, not a machine gun, not a machete. I just jumped.”
He said the injury happened toward the end of the match, and it was a situation where he had to determine if it was bad enough he couldn’t continue or push through.
“I still had some stuff to do. But in those situations, you’ve got to figure out like, ‘Am I hurt to the point where I can no longer like go forward? Am I hurt to the point where I could mess up and possibly negatively affect someone else’s health?’
“You gotta keep everybody safe in there, and I was okay. You know, this sucks. I can’t do this or that, but I can do this for this. We finished everything and it’s all cool. So, like, four to six weeks, and I’ll be good.”
Given his time table, it looks like he’ll miss the Royal Rumble on January 29 and the Saudi show on February 19.
We’re glad he’s in good spirits and wish him a speedy recovery. We’re going to miss him for the next few weeks.
