Jake Paul is picking up friends all over the UFC, including the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. In a recent interview with Ignore the Noise, Adesanya called Jake Paul “no joke”, and predicted that the YouTuber’s next move in the boxing ring would be his long-anticipated fight against Tommy Fury.
“Nah, Jake Paul’s no joke man. When he fought Nate Robinson, I was there. I commentated that fight, right. And, I ended up at his house later on and I didn’t realise how big of a fan he was.
Adesanya: Jake Paul is “No Joke”, Predicts Paul v Fury Next
For me, to commentate that fight I had to study what he did from Disney and that’s what kind of made me know ‘ok, this is what this kid’s history his’.
Being at his house, talking to him, we talked for a long time and then I kind of realised, like, man, this guy, he’s crazy. And guess what? Those are the ones that get it done.
He was serious about boxing. People just thought, like, he’s just doing this for fun, he’s just doing this to try and make money, or get clout or whatever, but I was like, no. He’s got all the funds. All the access to be able to get it done.”
Jake Paul’s last fight continued his undefeated streak, a second consecutive victory over former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley. Paul knocked Woodley out, and recently returned to boxing training.
Israel Adesanya, who has well over a hundred professional fights under his belt across boxing, kickboxing, and MMA, believes that Paul’s obvious next move is a “real boxer”. Paul was set to fight Tommy Fury, younger brother to world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, late last year, until Fury pulled out, allowing Tyron Woodley to step up at the last minute. “The Last Stylebender” says he wants to see Paul test himself against Tommy Fury.
“I know he’ll want to test himself. I want that [Tommy] Fury fight. That’s the one that’s gonna be like ‘right this is gonna check where his real level of boxing his’. I think that’s a sellable fight, a very lucrative fight. They should do that later on.”
For his part, Tommy Fury wants the fight as much as anybody, telling Sky Sports that he still plans on fighting Jake Paul this year. “I’d like to see the fight happen at the back end of the year.
You know, I’m not really waiting around for him, he knows I’m here and I’m ready to fight at all times. I’ve put that out there countless times. I’m not the issue here, if the man wanted to fight we’d have a rescheduled date by now, but the ball’s in his court.
I’m ready to fight whenever.” Do you agree with Adesanya? Let us know in the comments.
