Tinder has finally banned “The Tinder Swindler” Shimon Hayut—also known as Simon Leviev. He is known for using the dating app to scam dares out of thousand of dollars and is the subject of the Netflix doc The Tinder Swindler.

While on the app, Hayut used several identities to hustle women out of their money. One major instance was when one victim claimed that Hayut scammed roughly $250,000 out of her. His most effective scam was posing as the son of diamond magnate Levi Leviev.
Once the bait was taken, he ran with a promise to take them on a luxury trip before turning the story towards being in danger. Hayut would then reel them in by asking them to open a credit card for him since he couldn’t safely use his own funds. The plan worked more often than not it seems.
Before finally being banned, he was convicted of scamming three Finnish women and given three years behind bars. After posting bail in 2017, Shimon Hayut would disappear for some time but his scams were reported on by the Norwegian publication Verdens Gang.

A lot of dirt was dug up and the report was seen by another of his girlfriends, Ayeleen Koeleman. She reported him to the Israeli police as well as Interpol and gave them his location.
Arrested in June 2019 while at the Athens airport, he was released after 15 months. It was a stroke of luck for Hayut as there was an initiative to lower the prison population due to COVID-19 concerns.
In speaking with E! News a Tinder spokesperson said the following on the ban:
“We banned Simon Leviev and any of his known aliases as soon as the story of his actions became public in 2019. He is permanently banned from Tinder. In the lead up to the release of the documentary, we conducted additional internal investigations and can confirm Simon Leviev is not active on Tinder under any of his known aliases.”
While won’t be able to swipe right on his next easy lick, Instagram has yet to ban him.
