One of the biggest mysteries of the WWE is how they’re unable to build and maintain stars.
For nearly twenty years, the WWE reigned supreme without a challenger in sight, and somewhere during that time they forgot how to build and maintain stars.
It’s easy to say they’ve grown lazy, but it could be far more than that as Vince Russo said the last time he was there, he saw right away all of the writers should’ve been fired.
That may be the case, but everything is filtered through Vince McMahon, meaning he has the final say. So it begs the question about how bad are the writers and how out of touch is Vince?
From champion to jobber
The WWE has a talent for taking their championship contenders into jobbers and it makes no sense. If they were good enough to push the champions, then they should at least be on par with the other top stars.
Instead, they tend to get beaten easily or are pushed by mid carders.
A couple of perfect examples and Nikki ASH and Liv Morgan.
Not too long ago, Nikki was a Women’s tag team champion, but even then she was booked as the weaker member. Before that she was on par with Alexa Bliss when they had the titles.
Liv Morgan got an even bigger push as she feuded with Becky Lynch for a couple of months and she pushed Lynch to her limit. Now, she’s treading water boarding on jobber status as she’s moved to the back of the line.
Vince Russo talked about it in a recent interview with Sportskeeda, and special thanks to sportskeeda.com for the transcript.
“Look at Nikki Cross; they did the same exact thing, bro. This girl was in the main event; now, she is a jobber. Bro, back in the day, if you are a jobber, you are a jobber. Like, you knew who the jobbers were. Here in the WWE, here’s the formula. You’re lucky if you get a month of a push, and then you’re a jobber. So, why did you attempt to push them in the first place.”
And wasn’t done as he turned his attention to Liv Morgan next.
“Let me tell you something. Once you bring somebody to a certain level, and then you drop them straight down, that is a fail. That is a fail! Let’s just talk about the two women you just brought up. Bro, all that push into Liv Morgan when she was going after Becky. Her mother is on the show, her aunt Hilly is on the show, uncle Charlie is on the show. All the build now, nothing! Waste of time, bro. Waste of your time, waste of her time, waste of resources, waste of money. You never build somebody to that point just to bury them.”
We don’t agree with Russo a lot, but when it comes to building characters and doing it right he’s more than proven himself.
If the WWE wants to turn things around and return to their previous glory, they’d be wise to listen to him and revert back to what works and doesn’t leave wrestlers and fans dangling.
For many of us, it’s more than just big names. We want engaging storylines and to see some consistency, and that’s been what fans have been asking to have for years.
Unfortunately, we may never know why the WWE does the things they do.
