The WWE is known for having great storylines and characters over the years, but they also like to reuse storylines that were successful with a few tweaks to give them a fresh twist.
The latest of these is Happy Corbin.
Corbin was previously King and Baron Corbin and his character fell on hard times and lost it all until a trip to the slot machines turned things around and now he’s Happy Corbin as he’s filthy rich again.
Corbin’s great at inciting fan reaction to his heel gimmick, just like John Bradshaw Layfield.
But unlike JBL, Corbin hasn’t won the top championship, though he was an authority figure on raw a couple of years ago and get prominent TV time.
Lately, Corbin’s been feuding with Drew McIntyre with his sidekick Madcap Moss taking a brunt of the beatings since McIntyre returned to action.
Following McIntyre’s win over Moss at Elimination Chamber, he said he has unfinished business with Corbin, and it looks like their feud will continue until WrestleMania,
JBL would be perfect for Corbin
In a recent interview with Inside the Ropes, JBL explained why he’d love to manage Corbin.
“I Love Baron Corbin. I think Baron Corbin is a really smart guy, and I think Baron Corbin is a guy I would like to manage. The problem I have is I’m kind of like Colonel Parker. I’m tall and so I can’t manage a lot of people because I’m 6’6 and you don’t want a manager that’s bigger than the wrestler and so I’m limited in who I can manage because of the size.”
His similarities with Corbin’s current character would make then a perfect combination as JBL could have a financial advisor role with a touch of loan shark in him.
It’d also be a first for Corbin as he hasn’t had a manager before and JBL’s legacy would go a long way in putting Corbin over as the top heel in the company.
Corbin could also become more than a comedy act and get a serious push that could put him into the upper echelon of heels in current memory.
And JBL will have plenty of great tips and knowledge to share that could give Corbin a push in other ways as well.
As a fan of JBL when he was just Bradshaw of the APA, this is a move I’d love to see happen and make things interesting on Smackdown or any of the shows.
