Kamaru Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, is extremely sure of his star client’s abilities. In fact, he’s so confident when it comes to the “Nigerian Nightmare” that he believes Usman will destroy the #1 pound-for-pound boxer on the planet in the ring.
Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie that not only would Kamaru Usman win a potential boxing match against Canelo Alvarez, but he would do so within three rounds. He also called Alvarez and his fellow pugilists “cowards” for avoiding the world of MMA while mixed martial artists cross over into boxing.
Abdelaziz on Usman v Canelo: “Kamaru would beat his ass like he stole something”
“He don’t want to fight Jake Paul, or Logan Paul. He said, ‘I’m the pound for pound king in MMA, and I want to fight the pound for pound king’, coward, in boxing.
I think all these boxers are cowards because they don’t want to fight in MMA, they want us to all come to boxing. But at the end of the day, in a street fight, who’s the baddest man on the planet?
They cannot call Canelo the baddest man on the planet. They cannot call him that because if they both met in the street who would win? Kamaru would beat his ass like he stole something”.
Kamaru Usman is, at the moment, the pound-for-pound number one in the UFC. Usman has walked over all opposition in the welterweight division to retain his crown, and it looks now as if he’ll be taking sequel fights before any serious contenders can get to him. He’s already defended his title against Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal twice, and it’s widely expected that English fighter Leon “Rocky” Edwards will be next in line.
A summer title defense – perhaps during International Fight Week to accommodate Edwards – is likely. Usman is expecting yet another one-sided defense of his position at number one, as is his manager. After that, says Abdelazis, Kamaru Usman puts Alvarez away in three rounds.
“First, he have to defend his title in July. Then we get the greatest promoter of all time, Dana White, to put his stamp on it… Kamaru will knock him out in three rounds. I really do think so, I believe in him”.
Nobody doubts Kamaru Usman’s striking, but he isn’t exactly known for his knockout ability. That said, he handed Jorge Masvidal his first ever knockout loss, so it’s plausible that Usman could do the same again.
