Right now, it’s hard to deny that Sheamus is on one of the best runs of his career. It feels like yesterday that a reported back injury was going to cut his career short, only for Sheamus to break through and prove himself as one of the toughest in the company. Now, less than a month out from Wrestlemania – he’s hoping he’s got a spot on the biggest shows of the year.
Sheamus Has Been On Fire This Past Year – Feels He’s Earned His Spot At Wrestlemania
While speaking with Dallas Morning News, Sheamus would start to discuss Wrestlemania – and how he’s looking to get onto the card.
“I mean, that would be funny, right? Faced the New Day the last WrestleMania we were there. Obviously, in a different position now, in a different dynamic now. But yeah, I want to be at WrestleMania, everybody does. If I’m not on WrestleMania then that’s going to be a major mishap on WWE’s side, you know what I mean? Because I’ve been bringing it, having banger after banger matches during the pandemic and after. So, I’m on a new lease right now. But obviously want to go there, take on whoever it is – whether it’s New Day, whether it’s Usos, it doesn’t really matter to us – we just want to go in there and show people what we can do.”
Right now, Sheamus is in a tag team with Ridge Holland. A planned match with The New Day at Wrestlemania is now potentially out, due to Big E suffering a serious neck injury on Smackdown Live after a suplex gone wrong from Holland.
Going After The One Belt That He’s Missing From His Collection?
There is a perfect storyline that WWE could put into play for Wrestlemania involving Sheamus, and that revolves around the one championship that he’s never claimed. Since joining WWE, he’s never been able to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship, something which has been a focus of his in recent years.
Right now, the current champion Ricochet is just starting up his reign – and likewise has no clear plans for Wrestlemania. As two of the best on the roster today, it wouldn’t take much to have them potentially steal the show with an encounter, and it’s such a simple story to tell. We could ever see Sheamus offer up his career as a wager, something that would make the belt feel more important than it has in years in the process.
