In 2021, fans were rightfully scared where Triple H suffered what WWE called a ‘cardiac event’. He would step away from his post as the head of their NXT brand, handing off the reigns to longtime friend Shawn Michaels. Shortly after came the brands transition to WWE 2.0, something which everyone agreed would have went smoother with Triple H around. Now, months later – Triple H has given a very important career update, that he will never wrestle another match.
Triple H Is Officially Retired As An In-Ring Competitor
In his first in-person interview since the cardiac event, Triple H would sit down with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take. During this, he’d describe exactly what happened to him in late 2021. It was viral pneumonia, and his lungs were inflamed. Things got worse, to the point where he was coughing up blood. After being checked out at a hosptial, it was revealed that his ejection fraction – measurement of the percentage of blood leaving your heart each time it contracts, which is supposed to be at 55-60% – was down to 30%. By the time he got to hospital, it was 22% and then 12% before surgery as he was experiencing heart failure. He’d say the following about his condition at that point.
He would thankfully get the help that he needed, and will be able to keep living his life as a dad and husband. However in regards to his in-ring career, Triple H had the following to say.
“”As far as in-ring, I’m done. I will never wrestle again. First of all, I have a defibrillator in my chest, and it’s probably not wise for me to get zapped on live TV.”
Possible Headliner For Hall Of Fame Class Of 2024?
With his in-ring career finally in the rear-view mirror, it’s only a matter of time before Triple H gets put into the Hall of Fame for his singles career. He’s already been inducted as a member of DX – but as one of the most decorated wrestlers in company history, WWE will have a second spot ready for him. It’s too late to stick him in the mix this year, with The Undertaker already taking the headline spot this year.
2023 is potentially out of the running as well, as plans previously pointed towards The Rock getting the headline spot for “Wrestlemania Hollywood“. Seeing as the relationship between WWE & Triple H is highly unlikely to spoil, 2024 as the headliner of the class would be perfect for WWE – and a great chance for them to put a spotlight on his career as a whole.
