Since Scott Hall passed away last week, the out pouring of love from his fellow wrestlers and friends and fans has been heartwarming and gave us a reason to go back and watch some of his old matches, especially his early ones.
But one match of his we haven’t gotten to rewatch yet is his ladder match (as Razor Ramon) against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania X in 1994.
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T Pitches Scott Hall Tribute Match for WrestleMania 38
It’s widely considered the greatest ladder match of all time and deservedly so as it was flat out awesome and stole the show.
It was also a relatively new area for the WWE as they’d only experimented with the concept a couple of previous times thanks to Bret Hart’s insistence.
With the history of the ladder match in debate as Bret Hart defeated Shawn Michaels in the WWE’s true original ladder match in 1992 to retain the Intercontinental Championship but wasn’t aired until The Ladder Match DVD was released in 2007.
The first ladder match can be traced back to 1983 when Bret Hart defeated Bad News Allen (Bad News Brown in WWE) in Stampede Wrestling (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladder_match ).
Booker T makes his pitch
While Hall and Michaels’ match is a classic and deserves to be remembered as the greatest ever, Booker T shared a great idea he had on his Hall of Fame Podcast.
He talked about how the WWE could book a Scott Hall Memorial Ladder Match at WrestleMania 38.
This would be a great moment for those taking part as well as a worthy homage to Hall’s match and what he meant to the business.
Booker said: “That does have a nice ring to it. The thing is, man, that’s just big shoes to fill, though. That’s big shoes to fill, man. Every time those guys gotta go out there and lay it on the line. They’re going to have to literally lay it all on the line. I’m talking about leaving everything on the middle of that squared circle. To have to do that, me, personally, I wouldn’t want to be in that position.”
It is indeed big shoes to fill, and one that would fit perfectly in this would be Ricochet as he’s Intercontinental Champion.
There’s a solid list of competitors he could face, including someone from NXT 2.0. This is something we’d love to see and think it’d be the perfect way to honor Hall’s memory.
Having Shawn Michaels either on commentary or as a special quest referee would be even better as it’d make sense he’s involved in the match in some way.
