The moment we’ve all been expecting. The fight started with fans chanting ‘Zombie, Zombie’ but The Korean Zombie started passive. The actual featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski quickly countered all Zombies’ tries to throw punches at the start.
For the entire first round, The Korean Zombie was trying to seek out a good spot to land a counter-attack, however, he was unable to do so, thanks to the cautious, but fierce blows that he received.
Volkanovski Almost Sent The Korean Zombie Back To The Dead! Dean Herb Saves Him In The 4th Round!
Alexander Volkanovski came more ready for the fight than the Korean Zombie. You could have seen this since the first round. There was no doubt that he’s still the best featherweight fighter in the world at the moment.
The first opening that Alexander Volkanovski noticed, he took it and brought Chan Sung Jung to the ground. Even though he wasn’t able to keep him there, following his getting up he delivered a strong left hook which brought The Zombie straight back to the ground. In the remaining seconds of the round, The Zombie blocked none of the shots that Volkanovski has thrown to him.
The second round started with Volkanovski landing an enormous left hand to the Zombies’ head. Alexander landed more than 50% of the attempted strikes exactly where he wanted to. The blocking game of Chan Sung Jung wasn’t on the level it should have been.
In the final seconds of round three, the fight nearly ended by KO from Volkanovski. He put The Korean Zombie to the ground and brutally punched him sequentially in the head. Before the referee stopped the fight, the bell saved the Zombie and gave him another chance to – well, to actually humiliate himself further– since the only thing that he did in the 4th round is that he stood like a tree and absorbed all punches sent to him.
The commentary crew agreed on this one also –Rogan, Felder and Anik said that the fight should have been stopped in round three.
“I don’t know if he should go out for a 4th round” – Paul Felder said. Joe Rogan agreed with him and Joe Anik confirmed – “He is hurting so bad”
Finally, in the 4th round Volkanovski almost sent the Zombie back to the dead and therefore the referee Herb Dean has put an end to the embarrassment by stopping the fight, proclaiming Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski a winner by TKO.
And if you are one of the people saying, Herb Dean shouldn’t have stopped the fight since The Korean Zombie might have done something, well, think twice. According to me, the fight was a round too long.
Alexander Volkanovski remains the greatest fighter in Australian MMA history and the undisputed featherweight champion. He is the fourth undisputed featherweight champion in UFC after the big three – Max Holloway, Conor McGregor, and Jose Aldo.
Who will challenge him next? The time will tell. Is there anyone in the UFC with ‘balls’ to do that?
