There is no respect for McGregor in the Macedonian Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski’s eyes. Alexander Volkanovski is known for his great fighting skills and – believe it or not – his humbleness. He is always respectful towards his colleagues and opponents, so when he attacks or talks trash about someone it is fairly supported by facts.
This time he fires at McGregor saying that he is not worth the titles that he has and his fights are won by luck. He respects the win over Jose Aldo, however, in order to prove your worth you NEED title defenses. The Notorious is the only ‘champion’ who does not have a single title defense. And that tells something. Is he afraid of challengers? Why is he avoiding being challenged?
Volkanovski On McGregor – You Are At The Bottom Of The Featherweight Greats List! You Won Against Jose Aldo By Luck!
The fight that put light on McGregor is the Jose Aldo fight. Since the world was ‘hungry’ for a ‘bad guy’ and a talented trash talker like Connor McGregor the public accepted him immediately.
It has been a long time since the world faced a hall of fame trash talker like Tito Ortiz who can increase the fight’s popularity by 100% with trash-talking. Tito was able to bring the tension to a level where the whole world – even the people who didn’t have an interest in MMA – would hear about the fight. The Tito Ortez of the newer UFC era is exactly – ‘The Notorious’ Connor McGregor.
According to Alexander Volkanovski – Connor McGregor got famous only because of his cockiness and loudmouth. His fighting style and abilities are not at a top level.
‘I feel like I’ve definitely done a lot more than him so out of all the champions, I’d say he would have to be at the bottom of the list.’ – The Great shoved.
Too bad Alexander’s start in the UFC was one year after Connor McGregor defeated Jose Aldo. They never actually crossed paths. If they did, maybe we would have witnessed a great clash.
This brings us a new question. All of a sudden Volkanovski mentioned and provoked McGregor. Is this a call-out? If so, we might enjoy one of the greatest featherweight fights in the history of UFC.
Both fighters have distinctive and original fighting styles, both are proven to be fierce and brutal and lastly – both are thirsty for new challenges.
On the other side, in Volkanovski’s perspective, the fight with Connor McGregor would be a winning lottery ticket for him. Won or lost, he would make a considerable amount of money.
Recently he said – “He is the only featherweight champion that I didn’t beat. So that’s something that when you talk about legacy, you know what I mean?”
We, as UFC fans can only hope for the fight to happen, since due to the reputation of both fighters, and due to the show that will be brought to us during the face-offs this might be the most exciting fight that has ever been.
