WWE released many talents from their roster in 2021, with over 80 names removed from the roster over the course of the year. One such name was Killian Dain, better known on the indies as Big Damo. The former NXT Tag Team Champion was someone who served as backstage trainer as well as an on-screen talent, and was released the same day he was helping backstage with training.
Big Damo Was Helping To Train Wrestlers In The WWE PC When Released
While speaking with Wrestling Inc on their daily podcast, Damo would have the following to say about his WWE release.
“I was actually training people the day I got fired, it’s one of those things. But listen, what is WWE’s loss will be the rest of the world’s gain. Because what I am able to take out to the rest of the world, brilliant. I am going to be able to help influence the next group of people in America or Europe. Or even maybe in Japan or wherever else. I am going to take my knowledge and help the rest of the world, and I am more than happy with that.”
Since leaving WWE, Damo has been able to work shows in Revolution Pro Wrestling, while also joining the controversial Control Your Narrative promotion. His spouse still works for WWE under the name of Nikki A.S.H, where she became RAW Women’s Champion in 2021 following a victory in a Money in the Bank ladder match.
His Dynamic With Drake Maverick Was As Real As It Gets
During this same interview, he would discuss his relationship with Drake Maverick. During the end of his run on TV, Damo was tagging with Maverick – and would often throw him around the ring out of frustration. This is true to their real world friendship.
“What you saw on-screen, is exactly what it was off-screen, I can tell you that. He still annoys me when he calls me or texts me. We are in a group chat together, he still pisses me off then. Even when I hear stories about him from other people, he still pisses me off. No, Drake Maverick is one of those guys, I have known Drake Maverick for maybe 17 years or something. I absolutely adored Spud as a person, and as a guy. But he does everything to annoy me at all times. So what you saw there is about as close as it gets to reality, I can tell you.”
