Two years ago, the 33-year-old Henry knocked out Dominic Cruz. After the defense of his bantamweight title back in 2020 in the UFC 249 event, the Spanish-American surprised everybody by announcing his retirement.
They say when you are in your prime – leave. That way you will be remembered as the best version of yourself. This was the principle according to which Henry Cejudo decided to retire from UFC holding two titles – Flyweight and Bantamweight champion.
Brace Yourselves, Henry Cejudo Is Coming Back!
Now, all of a sudden, in the whirlwind of happenings in the UFC world, he refuses to remain silent and inactive. “You’ve inspired me to come back” – Cejudo wrote on Twitter targeting Alexander Volkanovski. Is this the real deal, is ‘The Messenger’ really coming back to the UFC?
In the past, he called out many fighters. He likes to provoke people and not go to the extreme of fighting them. It is not his first time that he calls out Alex Volkanovski as well. Back in 2021, before the UFC 266 he did the same thing as now. He wrote a post about The Great stating – I’m gonna take Alexander ‘The Average’s soul.
How does Volkanovski react to this is epic. He does not give two flying fucks about Henry. The last time that he was called out by him he said: “Fuck Henry Cejudo, he called out everyone. He has called out female fighters. Do you actually believe the shit that comes out of his mouth? I’ll smash the little germ.’
Regardless of his reputation, and regardless of his calling out that happened during the last two years, we have to give credit to Henry for one thing. That ‘one’ thing is – he is the first MMA fighter to hold two UFC titles and in parallel compete in the Olympics and gain a gold medal for wrestling. As if holding two titles is not hard enough, so he needed an additional challenge. Hats down for that Henry!
Looks like these fighters with a wrestling background rushed on the Great Volk. Nevertheless, if this fight happens, it will be an exciting one to watch. The opponent will try and bring Alexander Volkanovski to the ground since he is impeccable when on his feet, and the constant anticipation that will run during the whole fight will make it a great show.
What are the odds of this happening? Well, one cannot be so sure. There will be many offers to Volkanovski, since after his excellent performance in UFC 273 everybody now will want to defeat him and prove themselves better than him.
I think that he will play this smart and accept the fighter that will gain the most publicity. He has a beef with Conor McGregor and at one point said that it is his dream to fight him, even at welterweight. He has an ongoing trash talk with Henry Cejudo and A.J. McKee, etc. The time will tell who will be the chosen one.
