Jake Paul has responded to Oscar De La Hoya’s comments in which the legendary boxer backed the YouTube star to beat world champions.
Jake Paul Responds To Oscar De La Hoya’s Claims That He Can Beat World Champions-‘It’s True Man’
This was a huge claim indeed, given that Jake has not actually boxed a professional boxer as of yet. His most notable victory was against Tyron Woodley, who just so happens to be a former UFC fighter.
Although that may be the case, Jake endorsed what Oscar had to say by thanking him for having such belief in his skills. In an interview with TMZ, Jake said: “To hear that from [De La Hoya] means a lot, but he’s right.
“I’ve been saying it all along. I sound so cocky, ‘he’s right!’, but it’s true man. I beat world champions in the gym and sparring.”
Despite what Oscar has said, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, it is not exactly clear how genuine Oscar was being.
After all, it could easily be seen as an attempt to get on board with Jake who happens to be making a lot of noise in the boxing world.
Not only is Jake making more money than most boxers, but he has also branched out into the promotional side of the sport.
Secondly, this could be seen as a way for Oscar to reach out to Jake in the hope that they can collaborate on future events. Regardless of what the case may be, Jake is still talking himself up.
He added: “It’s clearly a natural talent that I have, a natural power that I have and I work my ass off. People don’t really see that.” The response from the fans on social media was very critical.
Not only did people doubt Jake’s ability, but they felt that Oscar’s comments were simply designed in order to exploit a monetary opportunity. One person wrote: “Oscar will do anything for money.”
Time will tell whether Jake can live up to those expectations. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
