While everybody is amazed by Khamzat Chimaev’s skills and presence in the octagon, the Gambreed Jorge Masvidal is not particularly astonished by him. The Chechnyan has still much to do to make Masvidal believe in his hype.
The Cuban native 170-pounder is on his way to securing himself a title shot in the Welterweight division. He is still one of the most controversial and dangerous fighters in the UFC. Even though he is currently ranked in the 9th place in the division.
Jorge Masvidal Doesn’t Think Sh*t Of Khamzat Chimaev
As a long-time star and a famous name in the UFC promotion, the Gamebred Jorge Masvidal is certainly one of the top candidates to end up fighting the rising star Chimaev down on his road to the weight division’s title.
Masvidal is looking at Chechnyan’s booming career from a totally different angle. In his recent appearance in the Impaulsive podcast, he said: “I don’t think shit of him. He hasn’t fought anybody, you know. It’s like, you know, he’s got a while to go.
He’s got to go fight some guys. They talk big about everybody they think they can get money from. They know that he could bring in those Arabic countries that got a lot of money. But as far as him having fun and beating guys, yeah, you know… I haven’t seen one guy yet that he’s beaten and I’m like, okay, he beat up somebody good.”
To be honest, I don’t know whether you can mix things up like this and call a fighter not worthy of attention, or glory if he hasn’t got fights where he literally finishes his opponent in a totally bloody fashion.
He finishes most of the bouts with submission. That is evident. However, why doesn’t Masvidal take into consideration the Rhys McKee fight or the Ikram Aliskerov fight? The first he finished by a number of blows to McKee’s head so the referee needed to stop the fight. In the second he delivered a one-punch knockout.
Khamzat Chimaev is deadly. It had not happened, up until his most recent fight with Gilbert Burns that he exits the octagon evidently tired. He has astonishing endurance and great cardio. And we must give him props for this.
On the other hand, Masvidal’s record is quite a bit colorful. He has not had a win in the past 3 years. The Gamebred has one fight per year and when the fight eventually happens he fails to fulfill his public’s expectations.
He lost two times to the current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, and one more time to Colby Covington.
In order to be able to say something like that for an unbeaten fighter like Khamzat, he needs to first see whether he has the credibility to do so.
And on that what would happen if these two eventually clash down the road we will elaborate another time.
