When Iron Mike or The Baddest Man on the Planet gives his opinion on something that is connected to money, fame, and of course, downfall in career – you better believe him. He has been through all that, experienced it, and knows what the next step is.
In his recent episode of Hotboxin with Mike, the icon of boxing made a statement on Conor McGregor’s position at the moment.
Mike Tyson: Conor McGregor is Dazed by Money And Fame, He Cannot Be At The Top Of His Game Anymore!
For those who forgot, Mike Tyson is a heavyweight with a personal record of 50-6-0. He had a net worth of more than 400 million pounds! Hence he has enough credibility to give comments like the following.
‘McGregor will lack the motivation to reach the top of his game. It is hard to stay ready with that kind of lifestyle.’ When you reach the net worth that the Irishman has, it is a real struggle to even train if you’ve not been promised a fairly large price for a win. Money is the main motivator for successful fighters today.
This speaks of the switch in character that happens through the process of succeeding. The more successful you are the more money you seek. And this is a never-ending loop. Once you are in it, there is no coming back.
Iron Mike says that at the beginning of your career you are fighting just for the thrill of the fight. Money comes second to none in your mind. You have a will to win, you have a will to train and get better.
Once you reach some level of success, a sudden click happens which switches your view on the situation completely. Instead of training and fighting from rage and for prestige, you first ask how much money is at stake.
Once you have a 30 million dollar fight you won’t want to fight for less than that in the future. Once your ‘price’ goes to 40 million, you won’t fight for less than that. And this is a continuity that doesn’t end. In the end, greed will take over and all the prime thirsts that you had will be sunk in the greed for money.
This is exactly what happens to Conor McGregor. He started seeing the world only through the prism of money. He is not coming back to the UFC to give the fans a fight to watch, he is not back for the thrill of the fight, he is back for more money.
Even though his fighting technique and skills were at an enviable level, this changes with time. Even though he still might have these skills with him, he is already lacking the rage and the will to finish the fight in an exciting fashion.
The Irishman announced that he started with his sparing sessions and training. We should expect him back in the summer. However, does he have something thrilling and qualitative to bring to the audience? We will be passionately waiting until the summer to find out.
