People tend to mellow out with age and boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya is no different. “The Golden Boy” wants to mend things with long-time nemesis Dana White, president of the UFC and fellow boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
Oscar De La Hoya Wants “Fix Things Up” with UFC President Dana White and Floyd Mayweather
In the past, De La Hoya and White were cool but then De La Hoya had some words to say about UFC’s promoting of fights. Their beef began after Oscar De La Hoya told his Facebook followers not to watch the Mayweather-McGregor bout in August 2017.
This was taken as a personal slight on White’s long-established ability as a promoter. Dana White ended up slamming De La Hoya’s ability as a fight promoter and calling for him to fight Vitor Belfort at a Triller event after the multi-weight division champion backed out of the scheduled September 2021 fight.
When TMZ Sports caught up with Oscar De La Hoya, he was out with his girlfriend Holly Sonders in Beverly Hills. Of course, Dana White was going to come up as the couple are building a new house in White’s turf. He admitted to being critical of the UFC and White in the past stating:
“I criticized the UFC a bit and I was wrong for it but yeah, I would love to patch things up with Dana and Mayweather.”
In addition to the new house, De La Hoya wants to do business in the city and says that he wants to do business with White as he has “some big plans for Vegas.” Given that Dana White has trashed De La Hoya’s attempts at promoting, we’ll just have to see how that shakes out.
Remember 2022 is an odd year, folks. Do you see these two smoothing things over? If they do patch up their former friendship, will they work together? What about Floyd Mayweather? Will they smooth things over as well?
