There is literally no MMA fan who is not hyped for the new UFC 273 which will take place in VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville Saturday, April 9. It will consist of 12 bouts – the main event being the featherweight fight – Volkanovski vs The Korean Zombie.
Even though the Australian born from Macedonian parents – Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski holding his 23-1-0 record is a big-time favorite in this bout, the option of The Korean Zombie coming out as a winner is not excluded. Both fighters are known for their immense strength, and both can firmly hold their ground when it comes to wrestling.
Will the Korean Zombie be able to defeat Volkanovski?
The Great has a Muay Thai background, and as such is known for his brutally fierce and extremely heavy strikes. Max Holloway, as a challenger felt his vicious fists two times until now – both times he left the fight as a beaten-up loser.
Out of 23 wins, 11 are a KO win.Since both The Zombie and Alexander Volkanovski are great strikers, Alexanders’s edge might be wrestling. He has trained wrestling since he was a child, and to this day he holds up strong to his wrestling roots. The mental readiness and confidence are in Volkanovski’s favor as well.
He is defending his title for the third time. The Korean Zombie is the third challenger who will try to take the title from him. After winning his previous two challenge fights his confidence is through the roof.
Jung Chan-sung or the Korean Zombie, on the other side, has a professional record of 17-6-0. Throughout his UFC career, he delivered six KOs and eight submissions. He has Taekwondo, Judo, and kickboxing background. With that being said, we can be confident that he can put up with his opponent striking-wise.
He showed that he cannot be taken for granted when fighting Frankie Edgar. Finishing by TKO, he delivered a considerable amount of powerful strikes to Frankie Edgar’s head. He knocked him to the ground with a powerful right hand and he held up his position by not allowing his opponent to get back on his feet even for a moment.
We can conclude that his ground fighting game is strong. However, will he be able to put up with Alexander’s experience in the wrestling area? His eight wins by submission are an obvious virtue that he holds and his submission techniques can be a big advantage in the coming fight.
Finishing Frankie Edgar in the first round was a brilliant end of the match which left many UFC fans surprised by his brute force and spatial awareness in the octagon.
According to many experts, in order to win, the Korean Zombie will need a lucky shot to Alexander Volkanovski’s head. If the blow brings Alexander down the chances of winning will turn in Zombie’s favor. We say that Volkanovski needs to be more careful when on the ground. The Korean Zombie might easily use the situation and deliver a submission.
Will The Zombie be able to go against the odds and win this fight? We can just guess and hope for a good fighting show. In any case, we will see it first-hand on the following day.
