Even though we do not hear much of him, Alexandr Romanov is one of the best heavyweight MMA fighters in the world at the moment. Since his debut in the UFC back in 2020, he had five heavyweight matches and won all of them. There is nothing and nobody stopping this 240lb beast, he is going through his bouts like through butter.
At the UFC Vegas 53 event, aside from the exciting main fight, the eyes of the public were equally focused on the Alexandr Romanov against Chase Sherman bout. The King Kong vs The Vanilla Gorilla fight.

A long and tough fight. That’s what the UFC fans were expecting of this bout. However, Alexandr did have a little bit different plans. He reveals that the moment he found out that Chase Sherman is chosen as his opponent, he started training his grappling and submission techniques. His plan was not to win the bout on the endurance card but to take it as fast as possible. Taking into consideration their weight – this seems like a very smart strategy.
The bell rang. The Moldovan King Kong charged at his opponent. He immediately started seeking a way for bringing his opponent to the ground. The two attempts to bring down Sherman happen to be successful, with the second takedown being the closing one.
After the first takedown, The Vanilla Gorilla was able to somehow get to his feet again. He managed to defend himself from the consecutive blows that the persistent Romanov was throwing, but not for long. Shortly after, The King Kong landed a major takedown from which Chase was not able to break loose. Romanov took advantage of the situation and as soon as he saw a free spot he delivered a submission.
Tapping out was the only choice that Chase Sherman had. It is obvious since the beginning of the fight – Romanov is the winner of this bout.
Loud mouth is not something that Alexander known about. He works in silence. However, this time he called out Jon Jones.
“I have heard that ‘Mr. Bones’ wants to come back in the game. This will be very good because he has very good wrestling too and I think this will be a very interesting performance in the UFC. I am looking forward to fighting him as soon as possible.” – Romanov says.
Even though this fight is not something that might happen tomorrow, it is a sure possibility. Especially if Romanov continues his reign and continues his winning streak.
Jon Jones, after facing some issues and after being excluded from the UFC competitions might come back in near future. When he returns, most probably Dana White will want to test whether he still got it. And what better way to do it than putting him in the octagon with the King Kong himself.
Romanov is aware of the fact that the requested fight might not happen in near future. At the press conference, he made yet another call out, this time to Augusto Sakai.
“Now I need to make some fights and become a contender for this belt. But before this, I want to fight Sakai. Afterward, we will see what will happen with the belt.” – Romanov says. Whoever he fights, we want to watch him fight. He has the potential to have a shot at the title.
