Let’s pause a moment to discuss one of the best wrestling names ever. Before Triple H was even Hunter Hearst Hemsley he was Terra Ryzing. Yes, first name “Terra”, last name “Ryzing”.
Now, this isn’t about the gimmick that came with the name, it didn’t fit. He was something of a generic Ric Flair-like clone down to the so-not-90s hair. It sounded more like a name for a wrestler who was what Triple H would become: a dominant badass who brawled and won by any means.
Terra Ryzing Was a Rad Wrestling Name and Should Return
When he got to WCW, the company mangled the name into Terror Risin’ which was just awful. It’s as if WCW said, “Our fans are as dumb as wet bricks, so we’re gonna spell it out for them.” Honestly, he could’ve been given face paint and Road Warriors or Demolition-like gear and left as Terra Ryzin.
Hell, if they could’ve kept Kevin Nash, WCW could’ve revived the Master Blasters as a successful team. I mean, it’s definitely for the best that both left when they did but there was still a bit of mileage in the Master Blasters.
The thing is that there’s juice in the name. Does it sound super cheesy and super 80s? Most definitely! That adds to its flexibility. Terra Ryzing could be a destructive badass or the top heel of Southpaw Wrestling. It’s basically the low-hanging fruit of wrestling names.
The Daughter of Triple H Might Be the Key
First off, it sounds more like a name for a women’s wrestler. The long-retired Reggie Bennett is the first person who comes to mind. However, it’s a name that could be floated in NXT before the superstar just becomes Terra or something. Who knows, maybe Triple H’s daughter Aurora—who was training to wrestle—might pick up the name in the future.
Sure, she could debut as Aurora but that’s easy and expected. Trying to get “Terra Ryzing” over in this century would be interesting to see. Ava Raine vs. Terra Ryzing? Book that in advance!
