It’s a real life soap opera! Former ‘General Hospital’ star Steve Burton revealed that he is separated from his wife…and that the baby she’s currently carrying is not his.
Burton, 51, made the shocking double announcement on his Instagram stories on Wednesday, May 4. He and his wife Sheree Gustin, 45, have been married for 23 years.

“I wanted to clear something up,” he began. “Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her fourth child. The child is not mine. We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”
Photos on Burton’s Instagram page show the seemingly happy family together celebrating holidays and enjoying beach vacations. Burton’s social media also displays a photo of he and Gustin embracing one another along with the caption, “Celebrating this amazing woman today and every day!”
Gustin, who is a nutrition coach and fitness trainer, has not directly addressed the split or the paternity of her unborn child, but she did recently share a photo of herself cradling her baby bump along with the caption “Life sure is full of surprises!”.
Burton and Guston got hitched in 1999 and share three children – daughters Makena, 18, and Brooklyn, 7 as well as a son, Jack, 16.
Burton played the role of Jason Morgan on ‘General Hospital’ from 1991 until 2021. The actor also made headlines last year when he was fired from the soap after refusing to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
Following his November 2021 departure from the soap, Burton shared his views on the vaccine mandate on Instagram. “I wanted you to hear it from me personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me,” he said.
“I don’t think anybody should lose their livelihood over this. I love it there, I grew up there …so I’ll always be grateful,” shared Burton.
Burton has recently landed a spot on the ‘Days of Our Lives’ spinoff show ‘Beyond Salem,” which is set to air on Peacock. Burton is a fixture on daytime soaps, having also appeared on ‘The Young and the Restless’ from 2013 to 2017 as well as ‘General Hospital: Night Shift’ in 2007.
