Glover Teixeira is a fighter with a broad ‘portfolio’. His pro career spans across two decades, making his debut back in 2002 at the WEC 3. After 10 years in the UFC he became an icon and an unbeatable character. He has a professional record of 33-7-0 and a Knockout rate of more than 50%. Even though more than half of his wins are by a knockout do not take this as a fact that the submissions are not his strong side as well. He has 10 submissions and only 5 decision wins.
Chances are that if you meet this beast in the octagon you’ll be either knocked out or you’ll be subject to submission.
Glover Teixeira To Retire After UFC 275 At His Best – ‘Unlike Henry Cejudo’ He Says
As a 42-year-old, it is really not a surprise that the Brazilian sees his retirement in the near future. Finally, he did achieve his goal at UFC 267. He took the title from Jan Blachovicz via rear-naked choke submission. Being a champion is his goal since the beginning and now since he achieves it, the only thing that he is short of is a title defense. Unlike other fighters, like Conor McGregor for example, he is aware that having a title without having a defense over it leaves you with a feeling like something is missing.
He is set to fight Jiri Prochazka at the UFC 275 on June 11th. In what’s to be the fight of the year he will face the Czech and hope for a fast ending. If he achieves what he comes for chances are that we will not be seeing him anymore in the octagon.
Jiri “Denisa” Prochazka is not someone who is new to the sport as well. He is in MMA since 2012 and has a professional record of 28-3-1. Denisa is currently at a winning streak of 12 fight and is looking to extend this and possibly crown it with a title. He will be given the shot in June and hopes to take it. Even though he is relatively new to the UFC, he already has two wins in the promotion and is a promising future UFC star.
“The perfect plan would be winning this fight, which I have full focus on. And fighting one last time in November, in New York, which is close to the city I live for 20 years, and close to my gym. It would be my farewell from fighting. That’s what I’m thinking right now.” – the champion says for Mundo da Luta.
“I’ll be 43 in November,” Teixeira continues. “Regardless of being at the top, being the best of the world or not, I wanna stop this year. It will probably be my last year. I don’t wanna make this decision after a fight, but it’s what I’ve been thinking for a while. Don’t wanna retire like Henry Cejudo, who keeps asking for a fight all the time. I want to retire and stay cool.” – he finishes the statement.
Will this be the case and will we not see him anymore for real? Only time can tell.
