We are all aware of the controversy that took place at the UFC 274. Charles Oliveira lost his title, nit due to a loss, but due to a weight miss before the fight. The controversial missing of the weight has become a taboo-topic ever since and there are people spreading all kinds of rumours.
First the scales didn’t have calibration, then someone adjusted the scales, and finally it is all set up so Charles can fight Conor McGregor. Even though all of this seems like nonsense since we are speaking about the biggest MMA promotion in the world, such omissions can happen.
There Is A Lightweight Champion And His Name Is Charles Oliveira – Nurmagomedov Slams
It was tense. The outcome of the fight couldn’t couldn’t have been known, since both fighters came ready and willing to win. But in the end the better fighter won. Nevertheless, even if he took the win, Charles’s title remained in the UFC headquarters. Instead he is given a place as a top contender for the title.
This does not stand well with the former undisputed champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. He says that even though Oliveira has a weight miss, it is not something because of which he should lose his title. However, he makes it very clear. Khabib honours Oliveira with the title Champion, but says that there is a difference from champion to champion. There are undisputed champions and other. Charles is in the other list. In addition he calls him out for a fight with his trainee, Islam Makhachev.
““If Charles wins against Islam, we have to give him credit. Then he’s going to be undisputed UFC lightweight champion. Right now, I believe he’s champion. I believe even this. People talk about the half-pound. I believe he deserved it. Right now, in this moment, he deserved to be champion. He’s doing a very good job, you know? But he’s not undisputed. When I finished, I was undisputed.”
To pass this last condition of being a true champion Charles Oliveira has one more thing to do. According to Khabib that one thing is to fight Islam Makhachev.
It seems that Islam is following his trainer’s footsteps. He has a professional record of 22-1-0 and is not looking to stop. He is currently at a booming win streak, and for sure is one of the top contenders for the title shot.
“The last couple of years, people don’t even touch him. They don’t even touch him. He fight with Drew Dober. He fight with all these guys. They’re good strikers and they don’t even touch him, even one time, two time. Islam dominated them, all of them. The last 11 months, he finished four opponents. He finished all of them.” – Khabib says.
And he is right. The fact alone that he is able to do four bouts a year speaks of his readiness.
Khabib wants to continue his father’s legacy and continue the winning campaign that Nurmagomedovs have. His father predicted the rise of Islam and Khabib is here to make it happen. What do you think? Does Islam have what it takes?
