Nothing like celebrating a milestone and 15,000 episodes is one ‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers are glad to be here for.
We remember when soap operas filled the daytime TV schedule and while there were some… interesting one, there were others that seemed like they would last a lifetime.
But even the latter weren’t immune to cancelation, and many have pointed to events like the OJ Simpson trial as being a catalyst for killing off soap operas.
Even today, soaps are pushed around, interrupted for things like weather reports that could be on tickers at the bottom of the screen or wait until the normal news time.
But through it all, four shows have survived and we’re happy to be part of the fandom that’s helped keep them alive.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Unlikely romances
Some of the festivities this week will include the ongoing unlikely romances between Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati).
Out of the two pairs, Scott and Leisl seemed the most unlikely when they started as ABC “General Hospital” Spoilers was sure one or the other was up to something, and we’re glad we were wrong.
They’re so good together we can’t wait to see what trouble will find them next, and we have a feeling something’s coming around the corner.
Sonny and Nina’s relationship has been well documented, and like with Scott and Leisl, we didn’t expect it to go anywhere, but we’re enjoying what they have.
For the first time in a long time Sonny looks happy. He’s not with someone that’s trying to prove herself to be his equal or influence him in any way, and Nina actually apologizes when she’s wrong instead of digging her heels in.
What Nina did in Nixon Falls was wrong, but they’ve moved beyond it and have grown. The rest of Sonny’s family not so much.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Family drama
We’re also going to have a staple of soap operas as there will be the continuing adventures with the Quartermaines as Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) will struggle between doing what’s “right for the family” and remaining relevant.
It’s not an easy position to be in with Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) trying to force him out and placate him.
The fact it looks like Michael isn’t relaying Ned’s ideas doesn’t help, and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) is waiting to help Ned thwart them and stay in power himself.
Imagine how smoothly things would run without the rampant nepotism.
What decision do you think Ned will make? Let us know in the comments below and check back with ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers for the latest updates, spoilers, and speculation.
