This past week has not been a good one when it comes to injuries to professional wrestlers. The biggest story of the weekend came with new AEW World Champion CM Punk suffering a broken foot. Add in Scorpio Sky suffering a leg injury, Bryan Danielson missing a Meet & Greet due to potential injuries, and you have a mess. Now, Cody Rhodes might be joining that list – and just hours before his Hell in a Cell match with Seth Rollins.
Cody Rhodes Suffers A Torn Pec While Working Out
This report first came from Dave Meltzer on this morning’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He had heard from multiple wrestlers within WWE that Rhodes injured himself while weight training, with most believing it to be a torn pec. Instead of a Street Fight with Seth Rollins last night in Champaign, IL – Rhodes & Rollins would instead run a quick angle.
Both Meltzer & co-host Bryan Alvarez would speculate about what this means for tonight’s Hell In A Cell PPV. The sensible option would be to call off the match, and get Rhodes the surgery he needs to recover. However, Rhodes is know for holding onto an old-school mentality, and could be looking to get cleared for tonight and work the match.
Time Off Will Likely Be Required For Rhodes
Either way, if the injury is severe – we should expect Rhodes to take time off after tonight. He might simply want to have a chance to put Rollins over first, ensuring a solid ending for their current rivalry. They’ve been feuding since WrestleMania, with Rhodes having won both singles matches.
Rhodes has been set up as one of the top acts in the company following his time in AEW, with fans really latching onto him. There is even a hope that he will be the one to take the WWE Championship off of Roman Reigns later this year at Summerslam.
