The UFC color commentator Joe Rogan likes to speak about controversial stuff on his podcast. However, he seems to be a fan of unconventional methods for relaxing and ‘bettering’ his body as well.
Apparently, he seems to be becoming a great fan of these cold icy baths that he takes after training. And when we say icy, we mean indeed, a bathtub filled with water and ice. Joe Rogan, despite being 54 years old still enjoys daily training and is a person that pushes himself to the limit on a daily basis.
After these trainings, it is expectable that he feels sore and his muscles are ‘aching’ because of the acid that gets produced by his body to warn him that he went too far. His way of dealing with this pain and soreness is by pushing another limit – introducing ice bath sessions.
Joe Rogan Says Cold Baths Might Change Your Life For The Better
Recently, he posted a video where he shows himself entering and enjoying the cold water in his backyard. While being inside the tub with the ice, he speaks about the advantages of cold baths and tells that this is a life-changing experience for him. Life-changing physically as well as mentally.
“My body feels so good. My soreness that was generally just an ordinary part of my everyday life, a massive amount of that has disappeared… The sauna and cold plunge routine that I do, it has made a giant difference and it just makes me feel great…. It makes a giant difference in your physical and maybe just as important or more important, your mental well-being. My mind feels so much better after a hard workout. And after that a good sauna session and a good ice bath session.” – Joe says in the video.
This method is not something that is new to the UFC fighters and basically all combat sports contenders since a long time ago. The technique of soaking in an icy bath is common among UFC fighters and all combat sports athletes in general. As Joe Rogan states, the technique helps with the soreness and the recovery of the body. For example, after a fight, a hard training session, or an injury.
However, not everyone can stand it. Not everybody has the same tolerance for cold. Take for example the legendary fighter Mirco Cro-cop. There is video footage of him trying to enter a cold bath, and he is doing so for 15 minutes. He can’t stand the cold to the extent that he is struggling to get into regular water supply cold water without any ice in it.
So, if you are a sports person training in a combat sport, have you ever tried cold baths? Do they work for you? What do you think, are they promoting your overall well-being, or they have a contrary effect?
