After months of hype, last night got to finally see what AEW & NJPW were able to accomplish with their combined rosters. Forbidden Door is already being considered to be one of the best PPV events of the year, and fans already are wondering when the next one will happen. While fans in the United States would be happy to see the second event happen in another major city, it’s equally possible it takes place from Japan next time.
NJPW President Takami Ohbari Wants To See Forbidden Door Come To Japan
While speaking with Tokyo Sports, NJPW President Takami Ohbari expressed some interest in hosting a continuation of Forbidden Door in Japan. He’d be quoted saying the following.
“In my opinion, there are some wrestlers who were unable to come to the U.S. at the last minute. There are still wrestlers and matches I would like to see. I would like to see a continuation of this event. I think there is a need to see this event in Japan. The 50th anniversary year is a good opportunity to make it happen. I think there are some AEW wrestlers who would like to compete in front of Japanese fans.”
While the 50th year anniversary of NJPW will mostly take place in 2022, it will extend until the start of March in 2023. Earlier this year, we saw NJPW & Pro Wrestling NOAH work together for a third night of Wrestle Kingdom, and we could see AEW & NJPW run another Forbidden Door event for 2023.
This would allow the likes of Bryan Danielson, Hangman Page, CM Punk, Sting and Kenny Omega all to wrestle in Japan. Having Omega back in Japan with NJPW would be massive, given how messy his split from NJPW was. However, it would potentially allow us to see something massive, and the crowd would likely not be able to contain their excitement at the prospect.
Do you think Forbidden Door II could take place in Japan instead? Will we even see a second Forbidden Door event? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
