UFC bantamweight TJ Dillashaw blasted lightweight prospect Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett on The Schaub Show, specifically singling the Liverpudlian fighter out for his ballooning weight gain in between bouts. The Baddy, never one to take an insult lying (or sitting) down, was quick to react on Twitter.
Dillashaw’s criticism was mostly of Pimblett’s supposed lack of work ethic. “They can promote him the right way and do all this good stuff, and he’s got some stuff to grow and get into the higher echelons of the UFC, but if you keep that same work ethic that he has now, he’ll never be a champion.
Paddy the Baddy: TJ Dillashaw a “cheating little juice head”
“ou can’t have that down time like that. You can’t get that fat. You can’t get out of shape. It just kind of proves the dedication to what you need to do. And no, I’m not trying to pound on him or anything, but that’s something I think he’s going to have to figure out with age, right? He’s young.
It’s a full-time job, bro. This isn’t just wanting to be a fighter. You have to be a fighter.” Pimblett responded via Twitter, reminding TJ Dillashaw of his own off-season weight gain and, of course, his past PED suspension.
“Is this fella messin @TJDillashaw used to sell tee shirts with his fat face on it saying “fat Tyler” on when he came out of camp🤣🤣🤣🤣 don’t forget ur own past u sausage😉 Cheating little juice head wud never have won a belt without them steroids u fucking mushroom 🤗👍🏻🤣”
Paddy Pimblett, with only two fights in the UFC thus far, is one of the promotion’s brightest prospects. Both his fights ended in stunning-first round finishes, albeit after Pimblett himself was rocked by heavy shots. Paddy and his teammates have consistently declared that he’s on the road to a UFC title, but in one of the most heavily stacked divisions in the sport, that’s a long way off.
Pimblett’s on-mic charisma and fighting style have made him a star very early on, which has drawn the ire of plenty of his fellow fighters. He’s also done his research: once upon a time, TJ Dillashaw sold t-shirts poking fun at his own off-season weight gain, calling himself “Fat Tyler”.
Pimblett is set to fight Jordan Leavitt at UFC London this July. Meanwhile, TJ Dillashaw looks to be next in line for a shot at bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
