Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum has come out to defend Kim Kardashian and also to debunk claims that she ruined the Marilyn Monroe dress which she wore for the Met Gala Awards in May. Kim showed up the Red carpet for the Award show with her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, dressed in the dress Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F Kennedy for his 45th birthday. Kim faced many criticisms due to this decision and faced even more when she was accused of damaging the dress.
Based on before and after pictures that have been circulating online showing the near-perfect condition of the dress in 2016 and the “after” picture that was taken after Kim K wore the dress showing visible tears and some missing crystals, many fans who criticized Kim’s idea of wearing the dress in the first place became more outraged at the damage caused.
Ripley’s Debunk The Claims That Reality Show Star, Kim Kardashian Damaged The Iconic Marylin Monroe’s Dress
However, representatives of the Ripley’s museum where the dress has been since 2016 spoke to TMZ on Thursday, June 16 to explain that Kim K had not damaged the dress. They explained that the circulating “before” picture was taken in 2016 which was the year they had purchased the gown at an auction and then in 2017 they had a report on the dress that read that, “a number of the seams are pulled and worn.
This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes.” Comparing this description and the “after” pictures, one could tell that they match, proving that it was possible Kim didn’t ruin the dress.
Amanda Joiner who is VP of Publishing and Licensing for Ripley’s has also spoken out in the Reality TV star’s defense as she was with Kim and Pete on the Red carpet. She said, “From the bottom of the met steps where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”
There were also further claims that the dress could have been damaged in transit as it has been taken from the Museum in Florida to various other places for display. It is uncertain if these reports by Ripley’s would be enough to persuade those who blame the Kardashian. This is as she is still being blamed for accepting MM’s lock of hair that she was gifted as they claim that she disrespected Monroe’s legacy by accepting the lock of hair as a gift.
