Aren’t these two a couple? They are really fond of each other. You can see photos and videos of the two after, or before matches just hanging out, or plainly having fun. Lastly, the de-titled champion Charles Oliveira sends an offer for training together to the ‘old school’ Tony Ferguson.
This offer happens right after his iconic loss to Michael Chandler. You must have heard of it. Even if you did not watch it. El Cucuy suffers a brutal knockout with a foot in his face where his face warps to an extent of not being recognizable. The internet is full of memes of the happening, look it over.
Tony Ferguson Declines The Offer To Train WIth Charles Oliveira
“We’re among big dogs, ups and downs are part of our journeys. I admire you a lot, Tony Ferguson! You have the history inside the Octagon. Head up “El Cucuy“! If you wish, let’s train together in ChuteBoxe’s headquarters in São Paulo for your next fight. You’re a brother!” – Charles Do Bronx Oliveira tweets.
Oliviera is greatly popular lately due to his win against Gaethje. Before the fight, he was controversially stripped of his title due to a weight miss (by half a pound). The public reacts strongly to this. Many are supporting him, and many are agreeing with the UFC’s decision. However, he is constantly in the headlines, even two weeks after the bout.
And to be honest this is a really attractive offer. Not everybody has a chance to train with the greatest lightweight of all time. Even though this ‘title’ of a GOAT is given to him by himself, he indeed is a great fighter.
Regardless of the offer, it is highly unlikely that we will see these two training together any time soon. Ferguson respectfully declines the generous offer.
“I have to really reflect on what he says because Chute Boxe is a very good school. But he is in my weight class. I’m one of the only fighters that he hasn’t finished, and I went into that fight practicing zero jiu-jitsu. I didn’t do too bad. At least I didn’t do as bad as Dustin Poirier just sitting there laying there. I stayed active and I went for submissions everywhere. It’s not like I practiced really hard.” – Ferguson says.
“I’ve got to really think about that one because I see myself competing against him again. No animosity, but I went back there and talked to him before the weigh-in faceoffs. I told him, he was signing posting, and I walked up to him, put my hand on his shoulder and I said, ‘Hey, kid. You stay focused, all right?’ ” – El Cucuy says and continues.
“He turned around and he looked at me and he knows already. Like I told him inside that octagon. I put my arm around his shoulder and said, ‘Walk with me.’ I’m a good scout when it comes to certain things. … I know exactly what I have to do and I can’t really say no to it or yes to it. But I know right now that it’s not the time for me to go to Chute Boxe and train with them. There are some local gyms out that I’m going to be part of a team and help that team grow as well as myself.”
And he has a point. Even though they are friends, they do not neglect the option of meeting in the octagon again as opponents. And opponents that work out together… it just doesn’t make any sense.
