Right now in WWE, most of the people who could be called legends are nearing the end of their careers. Randy Orton is the exception to this rule. The 42 year old is a 14 time world champion, and has been a constant presence on the WWE main roster since 2002. His safe style has kept him mostly injury free, but during his 20th year anniversary on the WWE roster – he would be written off TV with an injured back.
Randy Orton Potentially Needs Surgery For Back Injury
Orton was written off TV back on the May 20th episode of Smackdown Live, finally taking time off to deal with a lingering back injury. The hope was to have him back for a big Summerslam main event against Roman Reigns, which is six weeks away. However, a new report from Fightful has Orton potentially being in need of surgery. If this is the case, Orton will be out of action until 2023.

Given that top babyface plans for Cody Rhodes went up in flames due to him requiring surgery for a torn tricep, also losing Randy Orton could be a hard blow for WWE to withstand. With the pace that Roman Reigns is burning through feuds, they risk running out of potential opponents for the dominant heel champion.
WWE Has A Babyface Issue
Ignoring Rhodes & Orton due to their injuries, there are only a few options for summer opponents for Reigns. Riddle is his current rival, with them set to clash tomorrow on Smackdown Live. Drew McIntyre is the #1 babyface on Smackdown Live, and is someone who Reigns has only sparsely worked against – but is likely being saved for the UK PPV Clash in the Castle.
Madcap Moss is a potential option given fan reactions during his split from Happy Corbin, but is upper midcard at best at the moment – and is not ready to main event Summerslam. Edge has turned face again on RAW, but he will likely be busy dealing with his former faction of Judgement Day, now led by Finn Balor. Bron Breakker from NXT could be hot shotted for a quick feud, but his reactions on the main roster are currently lacking.
