Everybody that is near Conor McGregor’s weight class is aiming to land a fight against him. Charles Oliveira, the people’s champ is not an exclusion as well. However, Dana White wants the Notorious to undergo some non-title fights before he is given a shot at a UFC belt.
Charles Oliveira states that he solely wants the Conor McGregor fight because it will be a price match. He knows where the riches are. Conor McGregor draws the greatest amount of attention to any of the fights he takes part in. And it is in Dana White’s interest to have the Notorious fight one or two fighters before he gives him a title shot.
Charles Oliveira Willing To Fight Islam Makhachev Only Under One Condition
This is where Khabib Nurmagomedov’s prodigy Islam Makhachev comes in. While Conor is busy fighting someone with a lower rank, he strives to make Islam the champion. Khabib Nurmagomedov has been aiming to arrange this for quite some time now. He is sure that Islam Makhachev can beat Charles Oliveira. According to Khabib, Islam’s skills, record, and popularity most certainly qualify him for this fight.
However, in order for this to reach fruition, Charles Oliveira needs to accept it as well. And he has one condition. If accepted, he requests the fight to be arranged in his native Brazil. He feels like this is what will attract the most attention, and this is what will massively fuel his will to win.
“That’s the fight Islam wants, but Khabib Nurmagomedov always says they want to fight in Brazil.” – Oliveira says for CBS Sports during UFC International Fight Week. “So if they want to come to Brazil, let’s make it happen. I want to fight Conor in Brazil because that’s the real money fight, but if they want to travel down to Brazil, I’m down for it.”
Oliveira’s way to the title is not an easy one. He is a part of the UFC promotion for 12 years. In his first 7 years, Do Bronx had a record of 10-8-0. After that, something struck him and he became incredibly better. He changed and made a dominant winning streak run of 11-0. He gives credit for this to his daughter. She is the one that motivated him through it.
“It was all about the birth of my daughter.” – Oliveira says. “When she came, I thought I must give her a better life. I must make money. I must win and I must make it all happen for her. Since then, you guys see what’s going on.”
“The reality is that I’m the problem in this division,” Oliveira adds. “The guys know my ground game. But they don’t want to go to the ground with me and they know my heart. If I go to the ground, I’m standing up again and I am beating them no matter what happens.”
