Dana White has rejected speculation that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are close to agreeing to a rematch.
Dana White Denies Claims That Floyd Mayweather And Conor McGregor Are Close To A Rematch-‘It’s Total Bulls**t!’
The duo fought each other in 2017 which broke pay-per-view records, as Mayweather stopped McGregor’s attempts to inflict a loss on his perfect record. While there has been talk of a rematch for some years, Dana has denied that anything is close.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Dana said: “It’s total bulls**t! That story came from a paper called The Daily Mirror which is a tabloid in Europe. It’s total bulls**t!”
In reality, the chances of this happening without Dana’s involvement are slim. Connor has made it clear that his time in the UFC is not over, coupled with the fact that Dana is ultimately in charge of UFC fighters, unlike Mayweather who dictates things on his own terms through his promotional company.
In addition, given how the fight played out last time, it is not clear if people genuinely believe that McGregor has a chance of winning. Yes, it is true to say that Mayweather is getting older, but McGregor is still not a professional boxer.
So the fact that the fans have seen it once suggests that the prospect of it generating huge amounts of money once again are slim. The fans on social media were not too enthusiastic about the prospect of seeing this matchup.
A certain subset of people were of the view that Connor’s career was on the decline, and ultimately, he was never the same fighter once he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
And in the process of doing so, they did not feel that McGregor had what it took. One person wrote: “McGregor is done. Retire. Enjoy your money.”
Time will tell if this matchup does end up happening, but based on everything that we have seen so far, things are not looking very good. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
