Jordynne Grace Looks for Redemption After Virtue Signal Failure

On July 6, 2022, Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace took to Twitter to voice her opinion on Chris Benoit’s career in response to a statement about wrestlers talking about his career without excusing what he did.

It can be a difficult line to walk given many can’t separate the man in the ring with the one that was suffering from CTE and other issues that led to him killing his family and himself.

In an interesting twist, Grace separated the two while also insinuating that Benoit, inferred he would be in his prime, wouldn’t be able to contend with today’s wrestlers.

    Things gone wrong

    Her deleted tweet said:

“This is gonna be the coldest take I ever tweet on this app. I already know y’all gonna be mad.

“I don’t think Benoit could 100% hang with most of the present day best wrestlers. He would not be able to remember matches.

“Also may he burn in hell, amen 🙏🏼”

Her slight against Benoit’s in ring career brought a backlash Grace may not have been anticipating, and wrestling veterans shared their thoughts on her opinion, with Konan arguably being the most ruthless with “If you’re gonna bury somebody, you better have a better career than them.”

Fans voiced their response, with most standing against her and some even saying: “Tell me you never watched a Chris Benoit match without telling me.”

It was also noted by Grace in a later tweet that Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com was going to interview her and Josh Alexander and asked for questions.

Her since deleted retweet said: “Don’t do this right now 😂”

    Redemption

In the days following her tweet, she apologized and reached out some of Benoit’s closest friends Chavo Guerrero Jr., Chris Jericho and his son, David Benoit, and she’s started and shared a fund raising event for Concussion Legacy Foundation.

While it speaks volumes on what kind of person Grace is after apologizing and reaching out to turn this into a positive, she didn’t reach out to Nancy Benoit’s sister Sandra Toffoloni, who has worked tirelessly to elevate her sister’s legacy.

Sandra shared her concern in a tweet and Grace tweeted to her that she followed her and asked if they could talk in private messenger.

While fans are still divided on this topic, it’s great to see some healing taking place and bringing more attention to CTE to help others dealing with it.
