On October 28, 2018 the WWE held their first, and so far only, women’s pay-per-view at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
Nearly 11,000 fans were at the event and it’s widely considered a success. So much so that fans and superstars have been wanting a second helping.
There were even rumors that the WWE was looking to hold event in 202o during SummerSlam weekend but it never materialized.
The WWE’s history with its women’s division is inconsistent as best over the years, but they looked to be giving the division a series chance with the amount of talent on hand prior to the budget cut releases.
They still do, in fact, and there’s plenty of hope we’ll get an Evolution 2 in the near future.
Empower away
Lacey Evans recently talked about her desire for Evolution 2 to be held as well as 2022’s Money in the Bank on a recent interview with Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston.
When the topis of Evolution 2 came up, Evans was quick to share her thoughts on it.
“I think it’s always necessary. Yeah, why not. I mean, what would be the hurt of it returning? I think that all the moms out there now are especially with wrestling. I mean you’ve got Ronda Rousey, you got Becky Lynch, you got the Bellas, you got me, you’ve got Bianca Belair, you’ve got Tamina, you’ve got all these badass women that are now moms.
“Let’s do another one and have all our babies ringside watching their mamas and then behind that have all the girls in the world that want to be sports entertainers behind the babies and then behind them you know what I’m saying? Just having freaking careers and having to juggle what we juggle and the fact that we get to show the world what mommies are capable of that we can still chase our dreams and in this career and be badass wives and moms and work hard is cool.
“I’m down for any time we could highlight the strengths of a woman. Let’s do it, especially with having two girls myself.”
What’s awesome about the current women’s division is they don’t need a centerfold like Sable to draw attention to them.
The WWE has some of the best athletes in the world and we’ve been saying for a while the women need their own brand.
They can still appear on the other shows, but it’d be awesome to see the women have a show dedicated to them with well developed storylines and matches that aren’t being cut for time because the wrestlers are women.
It’d allow Evolution to come back and a yearly event as their flagship event with three others throughout the year to give them a chance to build something special.
