Brandon Moreno is coming to reclaim the UFC flyweight title. First, he has to get through Kai Kara-France once again, who “The Baby Assassin” has to fight at UFC 277 this weekend. Moreno told MMAJunkie that, although he respects the improvements Kara-France has made since the last time they fought, he wants to “rip his head off” to claim interim gold.
“I have tons of respect for Kai, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to rip his head off. I mean, I want to rip his head off. I know I can do it, and I know I will do it. That’s already established. That’s very clear in my head that that’s happening. I have a lot of respect for him, but I’m going to win. There’s nothing in my mind and this world that tells me that I’m not going to win.”
Moreno Promises to Finish Kai Kara-France: “I Want To Rip His Head Off!”
Brandon Moreno’s run to the flyweight title actually began with his win over Kara-France back in 2019. It culminated with a victory over Deiveson Figueiredo – after the pair endured a draw in their last fight – to earn Moreno the belt. He lost the belt to Figueiredo in his next fight, and knows that victory this weekend is how he earns another shot at the title.
“This is a good measurement to see how much I’ve improved and evolved in my game. The last fight was a decision, but I have the objective to get a finish in this second one. I don’t know how or what round, but I know I have the ability to stop him.
I just need to be very smart, very patient, be very careful with his right hand, and utilize my game and have all the confidence in the world. I think this fight lends itself for me to let my hands go. Last fight was a decision, and I think if I stop him this time around, that’s proof that Brandon Moreno has made the most of these years.”
Kai Kara-France has an impressive run of his own, stringing together three consecutive victories – including a vicious knockout win over former champion Cody Garbrandt – to earn his place at no. 2 in the flyweight rankings. Kara-France is remarkably heavy-handed for a 125-pounder, and poses a serious knockout threat to Brandon Moreno.
Who do you think will earn the flyweight interim title this weekend? Will we see the finish we’ve been promised? Let us know in the comments.
