Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett dedicated his win to his late friend who committed suicide and shared a few touching words in the interview.
Paddy who was preparing for the fight for an interestingly short time had won the bout by submission, submitting Jordan in the second round. However, the Liverpool-born UFC rising star had something else weighing in on his heart as well. Just before the weigh-ins, Paddy got the news that one of his friends had committed suicide.
Paddy Pimblett Shares An Inspiring Message After UFC London Win
Fueled by this, after the win he dedicated it to his late friend. Additionally, he urged men from all over the world to not reach for the worst solution to any given situation. He urged men that they need to be able to speak up and let go of anything that might make them have such thoughts. This was a revelation of Paddy’s vulnerable, or emotional side.
Of course, before the mentioned speech, he did what he promised. He celebrated his win with the promised tea bagging of his opponent after he was left on the floor. However, his mood shifted once he received the microphone in his hands.
“I woke up on Friday morning at 4 A.M. to a message that one of my friends back home had killed himself… This was five hours before my weigh-in. So Ricky, lad, that’s for you.” – Paddy says and becomes al teary.
Paddy says that his friend struggled with mental problems and with carrying a ‘symbolic’ weight on his shoulders. According to Paddy, men, in general, are more unlikely to speak to someone about it. And that is what gets them in such situations.
He urged men to speak about their problems and try to solve them in some other way. Suicide is not a solution.
“There’s a stigma in this world that men can’t talk. Listen, if you’re a man and you’ve got weight on your shoulders, and you think the only way you can solve it is by killing yourself, please speak to someone.” – Paddy says.
As soon as he finished his speech, he crumbled crying in the octagon. He could be seen bawling his eyes as he exited the cage.
With this win, Paddy Pimblett improves his record to 3-0-0 in the UFC. According to critics, we can safely say that he is the most popular active British fighter in the UFC currently.
The match was a great watching experience and arguably it was the highlight of the event. Both fighters showed great hearts and incredible readiness.
