Right now, we’re in the midst of a big push for Scotland born WWE superstar, Drew McIntyre. He’s set to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a big match at Clash At The Castle next month, the first UK stadium show from WWE since Summerslam 1992. With this massive event quickly approaching however, WWE aren’t taking any risks with the physical condition of McIntyre – which will lead to some fans not seeing him upcoming live events.
Drew McIntyre To Miss Four Live Events Due To Minor Back Injury
Reports from earlier today would indicate that Drew McIntyre will be missing some upcoming live events due to a minor back injury. He’s not expected to require surgery, and will more or less just need to cut back on how often he wrestles in the coming weeks. We’ll likely still see him on Smackdown Live during this time – but likely more to cut promos to build up to his match with Roman Reigns.
It’s more important to have your top stars healthy for stadium shows than live events in Salisbury, Maryland, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Those are the four towns McIntyre is currently set to miss, while he’s still expected to appear in Montreal this Friday for Smackdown Live – where he will come face to face with Roman Reigns. It’s unlikely that this segment will put much damage on the back of McIntyre.
Another Main Event Star That Fans Won’t See Frequently At Live Events
Right now, McIntyre is one of the biggest names on the live event scene – with Roman Reigns having already cut back on the amount of events he works. We could well see McIntyre do the same going forward, and leaving the live events to younger workhorses in the company. It’s time for people to step up in a big way, and could lead to some names winning over the fans in WWE.
In 2022, McIntyre worked 37 house show matches – facing Roman Reigns frequently, as well as working a big amount of Street Fights. This is inline with the average number of appearances for wrestlers at live events – and simply seven more than Roman Reigns himself. WWE in general has cut back on live events since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with McIntyre working 75 house show matches in 2019.
