The co-main bout of the UFC 278 event will be as colorful as the main event itself. It features Paulo Costa and the ‘old’ Luke Rockhold. A mix of an old-school striker and a top-notch grappler – Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will come to a clash to decide who will take the win in the co-main event.
As heated as this fight will be, the pre-fight press conference did not disappoint as well. Both fighters went on and described what their intentions for the fight are.
Paulo Costa Says He Will Put Luke Rockhold To The Needed Retirement – ‘You Are Too Old!’
Luke Rockhold comes back to the UFC after a significant pause of about 3 years. He has been inactive since 2019, at the UFC 239. Paulo Costa used this fact as the main fact to grab on to when trash talking his opponent. He vowed to change Rockhold’s mind and send him back to retirement – ‘where he belongs’.
Even though both fighters didn’t provide any details on their plans for when in the octagon, they pledged to put on a great show. The Middleweight Rockhold threatened to put his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills to use and ‘destroy’ Costa.
“I’ll treat Paulo like a b*tch if it gets to the ground.” – Rockhold threatens. “It’ll be over.” “Oh, man, come on.” – Costa said with a laugh. “This guy is too old to say this kind of bullish*t. Come on, man. Come on.”
Rockhold did not think twice before deciding to use the trash talking bomb that he had in his arsenal. With it, he downgrades Costa to a low-level fashion model.
“This motherf*cker didn’t want to take this fight in the first place.” – Rockhold reveals. “The UFC forced it down his throat, and he delayed it twice. Month after month after all the cosmetic bullsh*t you got done? You little b*tch, shut up.”
However, Costa did not hesitate to reply with the same level of despise in his words. He claimed that he will send Rockhold to his retirement.
“I’m in my prime time, I will f*ck this old man on this Saturday,” Costa said. “He is visibly uncomfortable because he knows he will face a monster. And he knows already, look at him – he’s not comfortable. … I will retire him on Saturday.”
However, regardless of who is a better trash-talker, this is set to be one of the most competitive clashes in the middleweight divisions in recent time. Both fighters are extremely ‘hungry’ after the win, as both ‘need’ it to secure their path in the UFC.
What do you think? Who has an edge in this bout?
