While the drama surrounding CM Punk & The Elite has dominated the news cycle lately, another major story out of AEW was in regards to House Of Black. Following their trios match against Darby Allin, Sting & Miro at All Out – Malakai Black would embrace Buddy Matthews & Brody King, before taking a bow. He’d be granted a conditional release from the company after this, leading many to question the future of House of Black.
AEW Files Fresh Trademark For House Of Black Merchandise Following The Release Of Malakai Black
Despite Malakai Black having been the leader of the group, it looks like they will be continuing as a trio. AEW has filed for a new trademark for the group, with the filing happening on September 8th. The details of the trademark includes the following.
“Mark For: HOUSE OF BLACK trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of beanies; Hats; Shirts; T-shirts.”
In addition to this, Matthews & King are set for tag team action on AEW Dark Elevation tonight, with Julia Hart in their corner. This is a relief to fans who were worried the group would die off without Black around, but instead it seems they’re just going to move into another direction.
Issues Surrounding Malakai Black Remain Unclear At Best
News regarding Malakai Black remains a mysterious situation. His release was credited to unhappiness in his position within AEW, but also due to physical and mental health issues. All signs have pointed towards Black being done with professional wrestling as a whole, atleast for the time being.
His AEW release reportedly came with a hefty condition of being unable to return to WWE. Black had another five years on his AEW contract, signing a six year deal in 2021 – and only completing one year. The belief is he’d be unable to sign a new deal with WWE for that span, which wouldn’t be an issue if he’s stepping away from the industry as a whole.
AEW have yet to confirm the news of Black’s release, though his name has not been mentioned on AEW programming since All Out. He was referred to in a promo from Miro, who claimed his god “snuck the devil out, before I could snuff him out”.
