Many fans have been wondering if Vince McMahon is back in charge of the WWE with some of the booking decisions being made the last couple of weeks, but few drew as much negative reaction as Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at Crown Jewel.
It’s understandable as it’s impossible to turn the Titanic on a dime, and it’ll likely be two to three years until we will see Triple H’s vision fully realized.
Part of that is out of respect for Vince and his requests since he owns 54% of the WWE stock, which gives him more voting power than anyone else.
Backstage Reason for Logan Paul Facing Roman Reigns Revealed – It’s For The Prince!
Another is to keep the shareholders, like Vince, happy by not changing the product too much, but also they’re in business to make money. In general, businesses don’t go into business to be magnanimous.
A lot of these events were already set of expected to happen, and we can’t blame the WWE for doing what they can to sell as many tickets as possible in their overseas shows.
It’s expected and fans have learned not to take these shows as seriously as other because of that.
But ticket sales may not be the driving force as they always sell out, but to please the Saudi Prince.
Logan Paul is big in Saudi Arabia
What is curious is this is usually when the WWE would dust off Bill Goldberg or another legend or two to be the star attraction, and the fact they’re using a newly signed star speaks to the company finally moving away from counting on their past for bank.
Dave Meltzer talked about this on Sunday Night’s Main Event and he explained how Logan Paul is popular in Saudi Arabia.
“He’s a big deal in Saudi Arabia. He’s a big deal to the Saudi Arabian prince and that’s the whole thing of these shows.”
He went on to explain it has nothing to do with ticket sales.
“Nothing to do with that. Tickets in Saudi Arabia mean nothing. It’s not even part of the game. Of course, TV numbers whatever. If he draws younger viewers, that’s good but it’s not a play for TV ratings. It is a play because the prince wants celebrity fights in Saudi Arabia to build the name in the media of Saudi Arabia and Logan Paul will get more of the type of press that Saudi Arabia is looking for than Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins.
“That’s what Saudi Arabia is there for. Saudi Arabia is for matches that the prince wants that will get press attention around the world for Saudi Arabia so this is a great match for that.”
There’s nothing wrong with listening to one’s fans and the Saudi shows are often fun simply as a throw away type of show from a storyline perspective. They tend to have good matches and provide some escapism for many of us.
As to whether or not Paul will win, there have been reports that Reigns isn’t expect to drop his titles this year. We’ll just have to wait to see whether or not that’s true.
