While most of the focus on AEW these past few days has been firmly on the aftermath of Full Gear – when CM Punk would show his true colours during a press conference. However, things had gone wrong before he even got backstage – as during his main event match with Jon Moxley, where he won his second AEW World Championship? Punk would become injured once again.
CM Punk Suffers Injury During Match With Jon Moxley
Much like in his match against Hangman Page when he won his first AEW World Championship, CM Punk would again get injured. This happened during a dive during the match, and not into the crowd this time. It was not his foot again, but rather an elbow this time around.
Punk was seen icing his elbow during the controversial post-show media scrum, which was the first sign of something wrong. While there are some fears that these back to back injuries could place Punk back into retirement, it’s too early to judge. It is hoped that this is not the case, and that Punk can return to the ring soon.
Not In Town For AEW Dynamite
Between this injury and a potential suspension from the recent backstage brawl with The Elite, CM Punk will not be on AEW Dynamite here tonight. Multiple sources have reported that Punk is not in Buffalo tonight – but back at his home in Chicago. It’s unclear if he will be stripped of the AEW World Championship for either his injury or backstage issues, but this situation is expected to be acknowledged in some form on tonights episode of AEW Dynamite.
Another set of belts set to potentially be addressed is the AEW World Trios Championships. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks have had their suspensions announced after being involved in a backstage brawl, and likewise will not be on TV tonight. AEW might not been keen on stripping those belts just yet, but anything is possible going into tonights episode of Dynamite.
