When Dakota Kai was released from WWE earlier this year, there was a lot of questions on just what WWE was thinking. However, things would be made right – as during Summerslam, she would return and join the WWE main roster, joining the Damage Control faction alongside Bayley & Iyo Sky. It was one of the more memorable moments from the show, and it was put together on short notice.
Dakota Kai Found Out About WWE Return On Short Notice
During an interview with Mark Andrews on his ‘My Love Letter To Wrestling’ podcast, Dakota Kai would have a chance to discuss her WWE return – and how hectic of a time it was. Kai was notified just 24 hours before the show would begin, and found out while she was streaming on Twitch. She had the following to say about this return.
“You know what’s crazy, I only got the heads up that this would be happening 24 hours before. I was like, ‘I don’t know,’ and at that time I didn’t know what the environment was, I didn’t know he was looking to do any of that, like bring people back I guess. … SummerSlam comes around and I think I was still in the mind frame of processing the situation, even walking down the ramp at SummerSlam I was very overwhelmed.
I was like, well 24 hours ago I was streaming. I literally was streaming. I got told about it, I was like, I fly out Saturday morning like straight there. I did like a Twitch steam the Friday night to be like, ‘Everything is normal guys, nothing to see,’ so yeah, very crazy.”
Making A Splash Immediately After Returning To WWE
Since making her return, Kai would reach the finals of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament, falling to Aliyah & Raquel Rodrigeuz in the finals. Alongside Sky & Bayley, she would claim a big trios win at Clash At The Castle, defeating the all star trio of Asuka, Alexa Bliss & Bianca Belair. Kai is in a good mid-card spot in the women’s division, and might well reach the main event matches for the Smackdown & RAW Women’s Championship sooner rather than later.
